Versace’s Fall/Winter 2022 Womenswear Collection

Donatella Versace brings sultry dressing to high fashion for the FW22 collection.

Versace’s Fall/Winter 2022 collection has just debuted at Milan Fashion Week. From top models such as Emily Ratajkowski, Gigi Hadid, Bella Hadid, and Precious Lee gracing the runway to the iconic pieces of the new season, Versace outdid themselves for this show.

The collection offered looks for the modern “It Girl” worn by today’s “It Girls”, and got inspired by the house’s designs of the late nineties and early 2000s, where we saw nods to the iconic clubbing era that defined a generation of Versace girls. Moreover, there were replicas of nineties bustiers, latex leggings, slinky and fitted dresses and the unmissable scent of sex appeal.

Corsets took over the Fall/Winter 2022 runway. Whether they served as individual tops or were incorporated into dresses or blazers, the Versace corsets came to impress. Bella and Gigi Hadid rocked two different iterations of the new corsets, Bella wearing one over a shirt style dress, Gigi wearing a corseted dress. The corsets hugged each model in all the right places and, when paired with latex tights, gave off the sultriest dominatrix vibe.

The ’80s came back with shoulder-padded blazers. The oversized, boxy shape complemented the shortness of the mini-skirts they were paired with and gave a new look to the power suit. Suits made their debut in black and white houndstooth prints.

The models wore a mix of micro-skirts and hot pink mini-dresses, and all the garments hugged the wearer’s figure to give a skin-tight look.

As regards hairstyle and makeup, the looks were also all about the nineties and seemed to be inspired by Donatella Versace’s look. Super-sleek hair, smudged eyeliner and accentuated cheekbones made even Gigi Hadid transform into a “mini-me” Donatella.

“The Versace woman for fall/winter 2022, who is never shy or retiring, has a powerful and seductive sense of mystery, which comes in and out of sight. With absolute certainty, she owns her charm with the certainty that she owns her allure and knows exactly when to unleash her power,” read the show notes.

Fitted bodices were also seen during the runway show, which appeared on cropped tassel jackets and long-sleeved crop tops. Corset details were included in the centre part of houndstooth print dresses and silk slips. “It model” Gigi Hadid walked the runway in a deep red dress with the aforementioned sensual detail. According to the show notes, “the bodice can be seen as protective yet overtly provocative armour, giving a sense of agency to the wearer.”
