NYFW Fall 2023: The Most Outstanding Beauty Looks

Makeup artists put their cherry on the fashion cake during New York Fashion Week.

When a fashion week ends, it means leaving a long line of inspiring looks and eye-catching beauty moments to discuss, and New York Fashion Week Fall 2023 was no exception. This February, beauty looks featured the latest trends leaning towards a maximalist aesthetic, with bold lip and eye shades, hip-length braids, voluminous ponytails, geometric eyeliner, black lipstick, ‘au natural hair and lots of hair accessories.

The famous Merlina series brought with it the gothic trend, which, although it is customary in some fall-winter proposals, fashion label Rodarte presented it from head to toe, with thick eyeliner and black, violet and matte red lips. While Rodarte may have been the most obvious example of gothic glamour, Adeam and Sandy Liang also leaned into the trend with deep lips in blood tones. On the other hand, bold colours dominated the runways. For Anna Sui, Pat McGrath chose a pastel core palette for the ’60s-inspired collection, with an explosion of colour and tantalizing textures. While opening New York Fashion Week with a bang, the Christian Siriano showcase chose Charlotte Tilbury for a runway full of fuchsia lip touches.

Undoubtedly, the trends of this Fall of 2023 will directly influence the trends that you will surely see a lot more of in the coming months. Here are some of the best beauty moments so far.

DOPAMINE MAKEUP

With a collection that paid homage to the 1960s, Anna Sui’s glamour reflected that playful, colorful energy. Using everything Pat McGrath Labs presented on the runway, the models’ upper lids were covered in a Barbiecore pink shade, while the lower lash line featured a touch of turquoise blue. The creative designer was inspired by The Peppermint Lounge. “The makeup is a reflection of the bold and vivid fashion sense of the era, with an explosion of color and tantalizing textures,” says the Pat McGrath team.

GOTH “WEDNESDAY” MOOD

Clearly, Wednesday-core is here and here to stay. Brands like, Rodarte, Sandy Liang and Proenza Schouler leaned into the trend with graphic eyeliner and black lipstick, presenting their latest Fall 2023 collection with gothic inspirations. Dark tones had their moment in most of the shows. Models sported essential makeup to portray the mood: dark lipstick, dark nails and thick eyeliner. “We’re doing gothic fairies … more gothic than fairies,” said Nars makeup lead James Kaliardos. “For this show, we really wanted to do strong, bold makeup, eyes with linear eyeliner with a dark black lip or a blue lip.”

PALE LIPS

For this Fall 2023 season, fashion brands like KGL and Coach unveiled collections focusing on the purity of the natural face and nude lips according to skin tone and creating a simple, bold and chic look. Definitely, pale lips are becoming the trendy beauty look.

VIVA MAGENTA, FLORAL ACCENTS & BOLD LIPSTICK

This year, most creative designers focused their attention on bold lips. For instance, fashion label Christian Siriano showcased its Fall 2023 collection inspired by the “transportive romance of gardens”. He presented his collection where a flower-themed show featured hues of glossy pink, red and purple lipstick, accentuated by strong contour lines leading to the lips. The Viva Magenta Pantone Colour of the Year was also present. Lacy Redway, Unilever stylist and celebrity hairstylist, also said regarding hair looks, “Christian’s collection is stunning. It feels ethereal and romantic. We were inspired by the hand-crafted floral accents found throughout the collection to echo this in the hair by creating a rose-like twist, with a ‘stem’ of hair weaving down the crown of the head, meeting the rose-like bun in the back,”.

NATURAL HAIR LOOK

For this Fall 2023, Proenza Schouler got inspired by the ‘Portraits of a Woman’, which encompasses different moments of life: walking, jogging, work, meeting friends, or any other simple moments. “Their beauty and realness are enhanced through a few select hair products to bring out their way, genuine and natural sense of selves.” Says Guido Palau, who worked on skin and makeup, keeping the whole vibe glowy, dewy, and natural, with no makeup, no brow product, and minimal coverage.
