It also launches the annual spring exhibit that brings hundreds of thousands of visitors to the museum. This year, tickets have reportedly increased from $30,000 to $50,000. A designer or brand usually pays for a table at the gala, investing from $275,000 and counting. The brand or designer then fills said, with celebrities, it selects to dress.

WHEN IS THE 2023 MET GALA?
The 2023 annual Costume Institute Benefit “Met Gala” will take place on May 1st, 2023. As it is already known, the Met Gala is always hosted on the first Monday in May every year at the Met in New York, apart from in 2020, when the event was cancelled, and in 2021, when it was held in September, because of the pandemic. This year’s gala is again held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (Fifth Avenue, Manhattan) in New York City.
WHAT IS THE 2023 MET GALA THEME?

This year’s Met Gala theme is inspired by the exhibit, Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, which looks at the “designer’s stylistic vocabulary as expressed in aesthetic theme that appear time and again in his fashions from the 1950s to his final collection in 2019.” Guests will be able to choose from the creative director’s vast archives at Chanel, Fendi, Balmain, Patou, and his eponymous brand, too. The idea is that guests explore the designer’s stylistic language.
The show has been created by the Met’s star curator Andrew Bolton. “At its heart, the exhibition will look at the evolution of Karl’s two-dimensional drawings into three-dimensional garments,” Andrew said. “We could not do a traditional retrospective. For one thing, I think Karl would have hated that.”
Amanda Harlech will be the show’s creative consultant. She worked closely with Lagerfeld for years.
The gala’s companion exhibition will run throughout the entire month and well into July. “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty” will open to the public on May 5th, 2023.
WHO IS ATTENDING & HOSTING THIS YEAR?

This year’s five hosts are drawn from television (as in the case of actor Michaela Coel), the movies (actor Penelope Cruz), sports (Roger Federer), and music (star pop singer Dua Lipa. Finally, there is Anna Wintour, Vogue’s editor-in-chief running the whole thing as usual.
Biggest names in the business also regularly attend, such as Beyoncé, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Selena Gomez, Zendaya, Blake Lively, Billie Eillish, Jennifer Lopez, and more. They are expected to attend this year’s Met Gala event, even though there has been no official announcement yet regarding their appearance.
The red-carpet livestream, which always gives us an exclusive look at the celebrities’ most daring arrivals, will be hosted by Emma Chamberlain, LaLa Anthony, Derek Blasberg, and Chloe Fineman.
