In a mesmerizing fashion showcase, creative director Daniel Roseberry unveiled his spring summer 2024 haute couture collection that paid tribute to the legacy of Elsa Schiaparelli and the enchanting world of planets and extraterrestrial creatures. The collection, titled “Schiaparalien,” explored the fascination of Elsa Schiaparelli’s uncle, Giovanni Schiaparelli, the director of the Brera Observatory in Milan, who discovered a vast area on Mars comparable to the Grand Canyon.

The show sought to question why we persist in fixating on the earthly world when there are less explored and infinitely captivating universes beyond. Daniel Roseberry delved into the realm of Elsa’s obsession with space, the planets, and astrology to create a collection that examined the contradictions of heritage and avant-garde, pure beauty and provocation, and the connection between earthly elements and the celestial.

The “Schiaparalien” collection featured a striking amalgamation of traditional haute couture techniques and futuristic elements. Classic materials like guipure lace, velvet, and fringes were juxtaposed with ultra-technological details such as microchips, calculators, and electronic devices. The result was a visual feast that celebrated the harmonious coexistence of contrasting concepts.

Drawing on his personal references, Roseberry skillfully integrated iconic Texan elements, including hand-painted sequined bandanas, thigh-high fantasy cowboy boots adorned with buckles, and silk satin braids inspired by dressage horses. These elements bridged the gap between his own iconography and the Maison’s heritage, creating a collection that was deeply personal and undeniably captivating.

The fashion show was graced by esteemed guests, with Jennifer Lopez, Hunter Schafer, and Zendaya being among the notable attendees. However, it was Zendaya who stole the spotlight, commanding attention as she made her entrance in a sweeping, all-black gown. With chestnut tresses and prominent micro bangs, her presence exuded an otherworldly aura, accentuated by a train that elegantly cascaded from her skirt, reminiscent of a wrapped ponytail.
